HOW TO: Install KODI v19.4 (Matrix) for all iOS versions (2022) (EASY)
(KODI v19.4 Matrix running on iPhone 12 Pro Max on iOS 15.4) - July 2022
Hello, today I will be sharing with you a file that normally would have to use Cydia to sideload it to your device. I have went in circles trying to figure out why KODI's website only gives you a .deb file, and doesn't really explain what to do with it, that's where I come in.
If you have ever seen this while trying to download KODI for iOS:
Then you probably know that you can't find any programs that will run this file, nor will iTunes or other programs like Sideloadly or Cydia Impactor. Again, this is frustrating, because KODI claims you need a "jailbroken" device to install this application... That is not true in the slightest.
The first file we are going to download, is the .ipa file for KODI, that I have created for all of you to enjoy from scratch with the .deb file that was given by the KODI team themselves.
Next file we are going to download is a program called 3uTools. This program will allow you to sign the ipa file, which is much needed for installation, and to install the application directly from the program itself.
Once you have downloaded both files, go ahead and launch 3uTools. On the top section of the program, choose Toolbox > IPA Signature. Once the next window pops up, click on 'Add IPA files' at top left of the window and upload the KODI file we downloaded earlier.
Now, at the bottom of the window you will see two buttons, one labeled 'Sign with a certificate' and the other 'Sign with Apple ID', go ahead and sign in with your Apple ID and follow the instructions on the program.
Once you have successfully signed in to your Apple ID, which is crucial to the installation of the application, check off the box next to KODI app you just uploaded and click on your Apple ID and click 'Start signing' at the bottom right of the window and let it run.
Once you have successfully signed in to your Apple ID, which is crucial to the installation of the application, check off the box next to KODI app you just uploaded and click on your Apple ID and click 'Start signing' at the bottom right of the window and let it run.
Once the program has ran it's self signing feature, you will see a message in green saying 'Signature succeed'. This is an indicator that the application, KODI, has been signed to your Apple ID so that your device will recognize the install as a developer sideloaded application and can verify it.
Finally, at the top of the IPA Signature window, you will see a button called 'Open the signed IPA location', click on that and choose the KODI app. This will then bring another 3uTools window up asking if you would like to install the application and choose the device you would like it downloaded to. Choose your device and click and install.
Once the program has installed the application, open up your device, and you should see KODI somewhere on your device like this:
Go ahead and click on KODI to see if it launches. Once successfully launching the application, close it. Now go into settings and make sure that 'Background App Refresh' is turned off for that specific app, unless you are like me and the device doesn't show the application in the list, then completely turn it off and now you will have to manually install updates with other applications.
The reason you want 'Background App Refresh' turned off, is to avoid the device from trying to update an application that is not on the AppStore and throw you an error message saying "This app is no longer available." For sideloaded applications such as KODI, you will need to use this critical feature so that you don't have to install KODI in the future, until of course the new version comes out and I will have it posted here too, so stay tuned!
Once you have turned off 'Background App Refresh' in Settings, you are now free to use the latest version KODI and install your favorite repositories. Enjoy! :)
